Job Application Tips
Filling out a job application, whether on-line or on paper is the first step, or gateway into the business where you want a job. Make a bad impression at that point and you will not get that job!
So, it makes sense to take it seriously. Its spring in the northern half of the world and that means millions of young adults…and adults will be searching for the same jobs as you.
That is not to say people aren’t looking for jobs in any season, in any part of the world.
There are simple things you can do to increase your odds of getting a job before them.
Here are some SERIOUS dos and don’ts when you make a decision to open the door to a potential job and apply there.
DON”T…
Call on the phone to ask if they are hiring
Over or under dress
Expose your tattoos
Over do enthusiasm
Wear ALL your pierced jewelry
Forget a pen
Wear any cologne or heavy perfume
Wear sunglasses
Interrupt the manager if he/she is with a customer
Apply during busy times
Bring a friend
Bring a parent
Bring a pet
These are a few of the things you shouldn’t do when applying for a job in person.
DO…
Go there in person!
Go alone!
Smile!
Be enthusiastic!
Cover all tattoos and limit body piercing!
Dress like they dress!
Bring a pen!
Fill out the application fully and neatly!
Do not ask questions of the manager or owner about how to complete the application!
Attach a resume if you have it, if you don’t its ok!
Attach a note saying how much you would like to work there and use the business’s name, and the manager or owners name (spell things right!)
Attach a small token of appreciation like a coffee coupon!
These are a few of the things you should do to increase your chances of getting the job you want.
If you are filling out a job application on-line or at a kiosk at the business’s location, you still need to fill it out completely, be honest, and follow up in person.
