Don’t grab en go!
In my town of 150,000 people, part time, and even full time jobs are tight. I know that at our business, Ben & Jerry’s, we only hire if an employee leaves…which is rare.
One reason is that the summer season has begun and many of the summer employment opportunities are gone.
So, if your looking for a summer job, or a permanent part time job, you’ll need all the tips you can get. Here’s one!
I have said this in other posts, I think its worth stressing again as most job applicants grab an application and run out the door…maybe to grab another one somewhere else? In my opinion it is helpful to the employer, to see the potential employee fill out his or her job application on the spot. Its one more element, and there are many, that can help you get the job you want. Filling the job application out on the spot can help you for 2 reasons…
1. Its shows the potential employer that you are not just “job grazing”, that you specifically came to their place and are taking the time to fill out their job application on your own time. Don’t forget to bring your own pen!
2. It allows them to “study” you for a few minutes and to put a face to the job application when they go back through the stack they already have. Chances are you are not the first person to apply that day…let alone that week.
Don’t be afraid to hand your completed application to a manager or owner and tell them you REALLY want to work there and that you hope they call you, or that you will check back in person in a couple of days.
Bottom line…have a pen with you and fill out the job application on the spot!
Don’t grab en go!
Happy job hunting!
