So far today, Thursday August 13, 2009, we have had 3 young job seekers and its only noon. All 3 came in and asked the same question, are you hiring?

Some days, we get 8-10 job seekers!

My two ice cream “scoopers” who were working at the time said no, we are not hiring. Had I been there, I would have said you never know!

So, if the 3 job seekers would have said, may I have a job application instead of are you hiring, they would have been given job applications and could have been considered depending on how and where they filled it out.

In this economy there isn’t much turnover, but if someone gets fired or leaves the next day after you apply, you could be the one that gets a call. Timing is important.

In reality, business are always hiring. Maybe not at the exact second you apply, but sometimes the next day or the next week.

So, after hearing those words, are you hiring, over and over for the past 14 years, I decided that I could improve teen’s chances of getting not only a job, but also a job that they are interested in, and consolidate the information into 10 simple steps.

Its not rocket science but for some reason very few take the time to organize themselves in ways that will get them noticed by a business that might hire them tomorrow, next week or next month. Following the 10 steps to get the job you want utilizes experience from the people that might hire you and empowers you.

So, I’ve given you a job tip…what is it? Don’t apply at a business and say, are you hiring? Ask for a job application! There is a lot more to do than just asking for a job application, but that’s one step in the right direction.
