I heard a NPR story last week that had an interesting quote in it. They were discussing how hard the job of president is and they said, quote…

“A presidential candidates hardest day on the campaign trail will be their easiest day as president”.

As an experienced job interviewer and owner of a small business that is very popular with teen employment, I have always said…

”its harder to find a job than it is to do the job.”

The point is, you’ll probably have to work a little harder at finding a job than you think.

Many young adults don’t take the job hunt seriously enough. For some reason, they think walking in any potential job door and asking “r ya hirin”, is enough.

Teen job unemployment is around 25% right now, so askin r ya hirin just like the last 47 teens that asked the same thing that week won’t get you to far unless you are a Daniel Radcliff look alike.

TIPS:

A couple big tips for getting noticed by a potential employer is to make sure you aren’t wasting your time and theirs by applying in the off-season if it is a seasonal business.

Another tip is to ask for a job application from an owner or manager. Bring your own pen and fill it out on the spot.

The last tip for today is to dress like they dress. You want to look like them, not an alien.
